The west of Crete is especially rich in contrasts.The beautiful Chania with its Venetian influenced old town has a very cultured,urban atmosphere, in the White Mountains the island shows its harsher side, inviting you to walk through the gorges and small villages.
  On its western coast are two lagoons like those found in the Caribbean and on the harbourless southern coast the few beaches are surrounded by inaccessible rocks.Valleys are filled with orange trees, old chestnut tree forests and olive groves with trees that are over 1000 years old and then there are the high peaks of the surrounding plateau, where countless sheep and goats graze,as well as the canyons with circling vultures.Archaeological excavations and old monasteries are found in the lonely landscape while pulsates in Chania.

 Chania city.During the summer, the historic Venetian and Turkish houses,tavernas and shops in the narrow winding alleys are at their busiest.In the old town you will also find many small hotels, often decorated in the Venetian or Cretan style.From many a hotel balcony, you will have a view of the long stretch of cafes and tavernas along the port of Chania's harbour where today only leisure and excursion boats are anchored.Parts of the historical city wall remains, behind which the new city stretches out.The new city is also home to Crete's most beautiful city park - an oasis in the centre of the busy traffic.
