When is the carnival in Crete 2020?

The carninval in Crete begins on 30th January 2020 and finish on 01/03/2020 on the parade day which is the highlight of Rethymno Carnival.

That day the whole city is caught up in carnival fever and having fun in one big massive party. Thousands of people are coming from all over Greece and Europe to participate in the parade or to join in parties and events that are taking place in every corner of Rethymno town.

The parties go on all night until ‘’Clean Monday’’ morning.

Clean Monday on 02/03/2020 marks the end of Carnival and the first day of 40 days Lent(Sarakosti in Greek) and it has the same meaning as the Ash day for the Catholics.That day is  generally celebrated by an excursion to the beach or to countryside to enjoy a Lenten picnic or a meal to a taverna, and fly a kite.
